We were recently gathered in the office talking about Instagram branding/marketing. We got talking about Instagram images with titles and text. All too often these posts have typos, grammar or usage errors in the text.
We realize that Instagram is a thing now since we use it too. There will be the occasional typo (Apple predictive type we are looking at you!). But, we urge marketers to slow down, spell check and watch for usage errors. We also know that there are many plugins and apps used to auto generate posters and ads for use on Insta. Since you wouldn’t let your print ad go into a trade magazine with a glaring typo or grammar problem: try to avoid the same on social media.
We recently saw a large franchised multinational printing company on Insta who’s image shared “No job to big or to small.” Really? Or a multilevel marketing company on Facebook says “we are lessoning pain.” Well, you’re not lessening my OCD by sharing that typo. It is amazing how empowered small business can be through social media marketing. But there is no need to lose our professionalism. We are product developers, branding experts and event marketers who double and triple checking our spelling, grammar and usage. We can’t afford to print 1,000 t-shirts with a regretful logo such as “No Regerts.” We would definitely regert that! – rich patterson
