At PBJ Merch Co. we source from a terrific group of the best brands in North America. And in 95% of the orders we ship for our clients, we source locally to match our clients needs. If we have a Toronto client holding an event in Vancouver, we use locally based warehouses to source product and Vancouver-based decorators to finish the product (embroidery, screenprinting, etc). Why?
1. It makes eco-sense to lessen the carbon imprint by using a local warehouse. You cut down on the distance value-add product has to travel between warehouse, decorator and final destination. For sure, most product comes from off-shore factories (Asia predominantly) but still if we can make a difference on our end, lets do it.
2. It helps with timing. When we started in this business average orders took 6 weeks to deliver. Now its 10 days. With the crunch time and need-it-now business thinking you don’t have time to ship product half-way cross the country or world.
3. For the most part, local sourcing puts valuable dollars into the local economy. A B.C. based business helps its business colleagues by using B.C. based warehouses (full of workers) and decorators and courier companies. As we already established in #1, the actual manufacturing is already gone overseas, so lets keep as much of the value-add labour and dollars close to home.
