It’s very obvious that current workers are stressed about losing their jobs. But, there is another new source of stress that wasn’t felt during the “high times” of the early 2000s when workforces soared and money/perks flowed like manna from heaven.
Job layoffs and retirement packages are increasing so the remaining workforce has to pickup the relatively constant job load. Simply put: less people doing the same or more work which can quickly lead to job burnout.
I personally know two friends/colleagues at major Canadian Brands where recent restructuring left them with: thankfully a job; a promotion in title; no promotion in pay; and a huge increase in workload. If employers think “well, the alternative is to be jobless, so suck it up and get to work” I believe they are misguided.
Work still has to get done and clients have to be taken care of properly. And most importantly when the economic crisis passes (which it will!) employers want a stable, happy workforce that is ready to move onward and upward (not abandon them for greener pastures!).
That’s where PBJ Merch Co. can help. Rewards, recognition, gifts and schwag are vitally important now. Why not acknowledge the situation and THANK your workforce for sticking by you during tough times. This is a time for camaraderie and acknowledgement. Elizabeth Grant M.S. writes about Stress related issues on About.com. She lists “Lack of Recognition” as one of the Top 4 causes of employee burnout.
